Raised in an artistic environment, Olivia Clergue studied piano, sculpture and fashion (at ESMOD) before launching her brand in 2008. His father, the photographer Lucien Clergue, and his godfather, Pablo Picasso, have transmitted her the taste of Art, where she draws her inspiration, while her mother, who collects jewellery and clothing from Yves Saint Laurent, transmitted her taste for fashion. Her unique style combines elegance and originality to a high quality French manufacturing.
Who are you?
How did you start in fashion?
I fell in love with fashion trough my mother's clothes, exclusively composed of Yves Saint Laurent pieces. His unique sense of color truly inspired me. I also studied sculpture, so I care much about volume. It has to be perfectly balanced.
How would you define your style?
Elegant and discreet, original and pure. But also glamorous when it has to be !
What inspires you?
Art. Color in modern art, shapes and concept in contemporary art, design, architecture.
A few words about this collection...
The work of the artist Tara Donovan inspired me to use a beautiful white textured leather that I introduced this season trough various bags. I also mixed pastels tone with brighter colors, in a great way. We worked a lot on color with my assistants, and I am very happy about the result.
What's your favorite piece in our selection?
The fringe bucket Eleonore long, it's a piece of art and a technical prowess ! So difficult to fabricate ! Only a very experimented craftsman can do it.
What are you most proud of?
My independence. I have been approached by several investors but I refused all their offer. It is difficult to manufacture in France with high quality standard and without financial help, but hopefully, my family supported me when times were hard, and I have few needs. I prefer to eat vegetables, it's not expensive and it's good for concentration ! And I have great relationship with my manufacturer and all the people who works for me. Which is priceless !
Where do you manufacture your products?
In France, in the Anjou region, where talented craftsmen still work with much care. We work closely together, and we respect each other.
If your brand was a music, a movie, a cocktail...
The song "Moon river" interpreted by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Any cocktail with lime and mint.
